James Mylne is one of the pioneers in photorealistic biro art and his latest work shows why. Entitled “Samsara and The City”, the piece depicts Buggys Bunny as an exhausted city worker not taking the time to discover what’s truly important in life.
While working on the project, James was interested in documenting the pain-staking process that goes on behind the scenes. He was also keen to build his digital profile and reveal a bit more about himself.
Early on I knew exactly what direction I wanted to take film in. I find working on artistic projects like this are usually easier, from a creative perspective, as the art direction is already taken care of. The artwork itself acted as a guide for the tone and style and I simply let James explain the inner workings of his process to add context.
From a technical perspective, this shoot required a lot of up close and detailed shots. To give it the “dream like” effect I used macro extension tubes. I couple my Sony A7s with some Leica prime lenses to add a bit of vintage character.
Since its launch, the video has received nearly 4,000 views on YouTube and is one of James’s top preforming videos. The artwork featured was also sold for a pretty penny.
